Specialty coffee from Uganda

Specialty coffee from East Africa

The Coffee Board specializes in specialty coffee from East Africa. The unique diversity and quality of the different regions are reflected in every sip of our coffees. Below you can learn more about our coffee from Uganda.

Mount Elgon is an extinct volcano on the border between Uganda and Kenya. The region is one of the most important for growing specialty coffee.

Mount Elgon offers perfect conditions for coffee cultivation. The fertile soils are rich in minerals. The coffee grows at altitudes of 1,200 to 2,500 meters and the region has a balanced climate. The Sipi Falls constantly supply the region with fresh water.

In this region, mainly Arabica beans thrive, impressing with their fine, complex taste. Coffee from Mount Elgon is characterized by a balanced acidity, fruity notes and a gentle sweetness. The aromas reflect the unique combination of volcanic soil, cool mountain air and traditional cultivation methods.

In addition, the coffee is mostly grown by small family farms that pass on their knowledge over generations. Many of these farmers work with local cooperatives or washing stations. Thanks to careful processing, the quality of their harvest is further enhanced.

The coffee cherries for our specialty coffee come from the gardens of around 150 farmers. The processing is carried out by the Mount Elgon washing station. After the beans have fermented for 24 hours, they are dried on African Beds in the sun. They are then sorted.

Coffee from Mount Elgon is grown sustainably. The cultivation methods used there protect natural resources and the coffee farmers in the region.
