Product Details:
The cherries for this classic Mount Elgon come from the gardens of around 150 farmers. The altitude is about 2300m above sea level. The Sipi waterfall is located in the region, supplying the region with fresh water. The beans are fermented for 30 hours and then sun-dried on African beds and sorted.
The Mount Elgon Red Honey brings notes of cocoa, grape, and the sweetness of brown sugar. In the cup, the coffee delights with a beautiful velvety mouthfeel.
The name of the coffee comes from its processing method.
How is Mount Elgon Red Honey processed?
The type of coffee bean processing describes how the cherries are processed after harvest, which greatly influences the taste.
Honey – “semi washed” processing:
The skin of the coffee cherries is removed. The beans dry with the sticky pulp, which gives the method its name. Combines the sweetness and fruitiness of the Natural method with the clarity of washed processing. The result is a balanced, sweet coffee with complex aromas.
Advantage: Less water consumption and more intense flavor profiles.
Interesting fact
White Honey – Very little pulp, very fast drying, clear and slightly sweet.
Yellow Honey - Little pulp, fast drying, balanced and sweet
Red Honey - More pulp, longer drying, sweeter and fruitier
Black Honey - Lots of pulp, very long drying, very intense, syrupy and strongly fruity
