Busasa

Founded in 2014, the Busasa Coffee Washing Station by Zuberi Matsitsi of Matraco processes green coffee of the Red Bourbon variety from the Busasa hill and its surroundings. Around 1600 coffee farmers are located in this area. Over the years, the washing station's focus has shifted from quantity to the careful processing of high-quality specialty coffees. The income of the coffee farmers has also increased through direct trade and higher revenues.

Businde

The coffee cherries for our delicious coffee come from the Businde Coffee Washing Station. This is located near the Kinyangona River, which separates the communities of Gatara on Mbirizi hill and Gahombo on Businde hill.

The station is located on Businde hill near the Kayanza – Gahombo road, 12 km from Kayanza town. This station sources coffee cherries from the aforementioned hills. Due to some distances farmers have to travel, they set up collection centers to shorten the farmers' routes.

Something very unique and special about Businde Coffee Washing Station is that it is located on the hill where the Twa Community originates from. This is extremely rare, as they are the most sparsely populated of the ethnic groups in Rwanda and Burundi, after Hutu and Tutsi. This is an important reason why Muraho Coffee decided to work with this station there and help the teams.

Unfortunately, culturally and historically, the Twa community receives the least attention and economic independence, and thus undoubtedly needs the most help.

Before the Corona pandemic in 2019, Matraco paid its farmers premiums/bonuses worth USD 22,000. They distributed fertilizer and red Bourbon seedlings to all their farmers in the Gahombo and Kayanza communes.
