Product details:

Stephan Katongole is a passionate coffee farmer who moved from Germany to Uganda in 2013 to continue his grandparents' coffee business in Sembabule. He specializes in refining Robusta coffee, particularly the Coffea Canephora variety, commonly known as Robusta.

Stephan produces high-quality Canephora coffee, which develops low acidity and great sweet aromas through special processing techniques such as "Honey Processing". The coffee convinces with flavor notes of dark honey, malt, and sweet chocolate.

As a member of the Slow Food Uganda network, Stephan actively promotes sustainable agriculture and the recognition of Fine Robusta as a premium coffee variety.

His efforts to elevate Robusta coffee to a new level of quality have earned him worldwide recognition. Stephan Katongole stands for the successful combination of tradition and innovation in coffee production and plays a key role in gaining more appreciation for Robusta coffee internationally.

How is Stephan Katongole Honey Processed?

Stephan places great importance on the precise processing of the coffee cherries. After harvesting, the ripe, red beans are separated from the pulp. The beans then remain with the mucilage, the still adhering pulp, on special drying beds for about 14-21 days. During this time, the mucilage ferments, making it appear as if a thin film of honey adheres to the beans. This method is called "Honey Processing". During the drying process, the beans are regularly turned, and damaged beans are sorted out. After 14-21 days, the beans reach the ideal moisture content and can finally be hulled, packed in jute bags, and prepared for export. Since this process is complex and can only be carried out under certain climatic conditions, the yield per harvest cycle is comparatively low.

Our coffees are available in various quantities as whole beans or ground. You can choose between different grind levels – depending on the coffee machine you use to prepare your coffee.

For every unit of coffee sold, The Coffee Board supports the "Orphans Hope & Life Kenya" orphanage with 50 cents.
