At The Coffee Board every customer supports the orphanage “Orphans Hope & Life Kenya” with 50 cents per unit of coffee sold.

Josephine Wambui Orphanage & Rehabilitation Centre

This is the name of our home, in memory of the kind soul Josephine Wambui, mother of three biological children and many orphans.
She was born in 1902 in Gitumbi, Kirinyaga District. In 1928, she married Rugendo Njamweya there. Both cultivated a small farm in Kimweas and started their small family there with two sons and a daughter, who unfortunately died early.
Life was not easy, but the parents managed to raise their children through tireless hard work. They helped each other, and the neighborhood provided great support and assistance.
Josephine Wambui was a very committed woman with a dream: she wanted an orphanage and a hospital for her own people on her own land. It was a stroke of luck for the family that her son Peter John Ngari was able to come to Germany on a scholarship, where he studied medicine at the University of Cologne and passed his medical examination in 1972. Afterwards, Peter John Ngari worked at St. Marien Hospital in Cologne and then in Wipperfürth.

Currently:
Currently, 26 children - 11 boys and 15 girls aged 4 to 19 - live with us and are slowly becoming siblings.
They learn to care for one another. They go to school together, play and do their homework together.
In short: they help each other.
They are looked after by well-trained staff who listen to them, comfort them, and help them to grow up and become people who can make a difference in their society.
These children are our focus
We want to support our children who have lost so much. They should have the chance to provide for their own families one day. This includes a good school education and training.
They should experience what security and protection mean. Every child has the right to healthy development and free self-expression, a life in dignity and respect.
These are our goals and visions for our children. That's why we have formed an association and are financed by membership fees, donations, and sponsorships.
